Yesterday I had an opportunity to participate in the debate on the merits of UK accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, which the UK Government has expressed a desire to join.
While UK membership of the CPTPP would be a significant step forward in rebuilding trade after Brexit, it is important to keep in mind some of the possible costs of entry into the agreement, and ensure that our high standards of food safety, animal welfare and environmental protection are not compromised.
