Work and Pensions Oral Questions 08/11/21

Last Monday I was honoured to have the opportunity to put a question to ministers at the Department for Work and Pensions.

In light of the Chancellor’s Autumn Budget statement last month, I asked what support is being provided to Universal Credit claimants that are unable to work – the change to the taper rate will be welcome for those already employed, but lack of support has left many millions who can’t work for reasons out of their control in crisis.

I followed this by asking about the impact on children living in poverty – who will be massively impacted by the removal of the £20 a week uplift. In Rutherglen and Hamilton West alone there are over four thousand children living below the poverty line.

You can read a transcript of my question in Hansard, or watch it on ParliamentTV.
